A new puppy provides cuteness, happiness and a whole load of fun in a home. But that is only when he has been through proper obedience training, socialization, housetraining, far from aggression and far from anxiety. Refer to the tips below to help you through the training process of your new canine baby.

1. Be consistent.

Training should start from the car ride home from the shelter. Carry your dog from the car into the designated toilet area to start him with proper toilet training. Start all obedience training at home to bond with your puppy. This way, you get to know each other better from stranger status to best friends. Dogs like structure. Teach him early and repeat all commands until he gets used to it. Start with obedience training from basic commands like sit, stay and fetch and incorporate these in his daily life. It is consistency that gets him on with life. Stick to them.

2. Lead by example and lots of treats.

Dogs are like humans. Like us, they get easily motivated by treats and rewards. Train with a positive outlook and offer him treats every time he does something good or when he gets to understand and follow the command you taught him.

3. Consult an Expert.

Training a puppy is not easy. If you do not have the patience to teach and motivate him to learn, consulting a professional won’t hurt. After all, it’s for the good of your puppy. But you have all the right to choose the best trainer or the best person to connect with your puppy the way you want him to. Make sure that the handler you will choose has the supporting credentials to go through your pup training. Ensure he is not too invasive nor too weak for your puppy.

4. Puppy School

Another option to train your puppy aside from a one-on-one expert training is to take him to a puppy school. This way, he can be in the presence of other puppies, a social environment where he learns not only to the commands and tricks but also to be sociable and be in good terms with different animals and people, preventing aggression and anxiety.

5. Have fun.

The most important thing in training your puppy is to have fun. Remember that dogs do not understand human language. They understand body language. They read the movements and emotions. And they mirror what you radiate. So if you are tensed, they get stressed and tensed as well. If you are calm, they are calm too. If you are having fun, then they shall be having as much fun as they want. Make training sessions as fun as possible to keep learning easy. Give him rewards for doing the right thing and learning the command that you wanted him to learn. Do not forget to praise him every time. As for accidents on house training or toilet duties, accept it as this is the most normal thing that happens in a training.
