Keeping your pooch involved with your hobbies makes it a lot more fun. This is a good chance for you to bond with them, it keeps them active, and it kills their boredom. Also, there is a big bonus to having them around, as they could also save your life when things go wrong.

We won’t need to argue this point to champion adventure runner Danelle Ballengee. Her dog Taz is a big part of her life, and the pup’s role in it just got a lot bigger as he became key to keeping her alive. This is the story of how her pup, Taz, led rescuers to her mom. A story that is already seven years old, but is worth retelling.

Danelle was training for another race, and she hit the trail hard in a canyon in Utah with her trusty companion Taz, tagging along. It was winter that time, and the low temperatures caused the trail to accumulate ice and crumble. Unfortunately for Danelle, this led to her falling off the trail and fall 60 feet below.

Upon impact, she broke her pelvis, and she couldn’t move her legs. She was in the middle of nowhere, and she knew that she needed to get out of there as soon as possible. She crawled for hours, hoping that somebody will be able to hear her pleas, but there was not a single soul near her. She then turned to Taz and told him to go get help.

Taz understood the situation and ran off. After a couple of days, he was then spotted by rescuers who were already searching for Danelle. They tried to capture Taz, but he was evasive. Then one of them had an idea just to follow the pooch around, as he could be Danelle’s dog, and boy was he right.

He gave the order to his colleagues not to capture the dog, but instead, follow him around. Taz led the rescuers to a trail where one of them recognized footprints that belonged to Danelle. Soon enough, they found her lying on the ground, crying and Taz’s snout on her chest. Danelle lived to tell this amazing tale, thanks to his hero pooch. See Danelle, and her rescuers share their accounts.
